🚨SPARTANS FALL TO COBRAS FOR THE LAST GAME OF 2018!🚨
On the
30-12-2018 the Telford Spartans travelled to Coventry to take on the Cobras at the Skydome. With no doubts, the stands housed our biggest turnout ever and the support was overwhelming.
First period started with relentless Cobras attack but it was the Spartans defence and superb goal tending keeping us at bay and giving them the boost they needed. Spartans took their first couple of opportunities very well with two extremely well placed goals against the home team. On the PP Cobras halved the Spartans lead with a well worked goal from 92 Ash Tyrrell. No more than 3 minutes later the equaliser came from a huge “alley oop” from 83 Danny Barker allowing 27 Scott West through on a breakaway and he didn’t disappoint when the pressure was high. With 68 Carl Bell coming forward with a short handed Cobras third goal, it was enough to close out period one. 3-2 Cobras.
The second period started with the Cobras well and truely out of 1st gear with 27 Westy sinking his second of the night. Celebrations where short lived with the Spartans catching a clean breakaway and taking, what they didn’t know at the time to be their last breath. A nice finish pulled the score back to 4-3. A minute later 27 put us back in front in style. A hat-trick goal from Scott West to put us back out in front with some room to breathe. The period was half way through and the Cobras kept coming. One PP goal and one even handed goal both coming from 95 Lynas closed the period out with a very comfortable 7-3 lead over the Telford team.
The 3rd period started and with a bang. 79 Gaz Evans on his debut game puts one home in a scramble around the net. Assisted by 31 Leon Rose also on his debut game. 20 seconds after faceoff 92 Ash Tyrrell scores his second of the night. Kicking the period into life like that saw the Spartans taking chances and getting worked hard. This allowed the Cobras to take the opportunities when they presented themselves. Two more goals in the 54th and 57th minute from 88 Arnis Meijers and 68 Carl Bell. With nothing going through him in the third, debut goalie 87 Harry Minns kept the Spartans at bay allowing us to do our job at the other end.
The game finished 11-3 Cobras. With a slow start but a convincing 50 minutes of good hockey saw the Telford Spartans fall one more time in the Snake pit.
